Free Covid Resources for NHS Staff
NHS England and NHS Improvement have worked closely with app providers Unwind and Headspace to waive costs for the NHS workforce who are dealing with the unprecedented challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. You can get more information on the NHS Employers website.
Unmind
Unmind is a mental health platform that empowers staff to proactively improve their mental wellbeing. Using scientifically-backed assessments, tools and training you can measure and manage your personal mental health needs, including digital programmes designed to help with stress, sleep, coping, connection, fulfillment, and nutrition.
The team at Unmind is offering free access to NHS staff until the end of December 2020, which is active now.
How NHS staff can get access:
- Go to nhs.unmind.com/signup
- Sign up with your NHS email address
- Download the Unmind app from your app store – your organisation name is NHS.

Beat COVID
Beat COVID is a wellbeing strategy designed to prepare healthcare workers by protecting their wellbeing during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Headspace
Headspace is a science-backed app in mindfulness and meditation, providing unique tools and resources to help reduce stress, build resilience, and aid better sleep.
Free access to all NHS staff with an NHS email address is available until 31 December 2020 and is active now.
How NHS staff can get access:
- Go to https://www.headspace.com/nhs for NHS staff to access, with the option to select clinical or non-clinical staff to start enrolling.
- You will need to use your NHS email address to sign up.

Sleepio and Daylight – developed by Big Health
Sleepio is a clinically evidenced sleep improvement programme that is fully automated and highly personalised, using cognitive behavioural techniques to help improve poor sleep.
Daylight is a smartphone-based app that provides help to people experiencing symptoms of worry and anxiety, using evidence-based cognitive behavioural techniques, voice, and animation.
Free access to both Sleepio and Daylight is active now until 31 December 2020. This includes staff working in the NHS who do not currently have an NHS email address, such as medical students and former staff returning to the workforce.
How to access Sleepio:
- Click on the following link on your laptop or desktop computer: http://sleepio.com/nhs-staff
- Sign up for an account using your name and email address.
- Click ‘Personalise Sleepio’.
- Get started.
How to can access Daylight:
- Click on the following link: http://trydaylight.com/nhs-staff
- Answer a few short questions to tailor the programme to you.
- Sign up for an account using your name and email address.
- Download the Daylight smartphone app (search ‘Daylight – Worry Less’ on both iPhone and Android).
- Get started.

Shiny Mind
Interactive resource to improve mindset and resilience. You can find out more on their website.
The Shiny mind app is Free for all healthcare staff in Nottinghamshire. To gain free access to the app sign up via GPTeamNet and complete the survey to opt-in to the App which will then generate a username and password for you.

Doctors Common Room
Doctors Common Room is a positive place to come together, to connect and to establish a safe, containing space in which to think and reflect. It is run on Zoom twice a day for 75 mins in total and hosted by experienced practitioner health clinicians. People can join the group when they wish and there is no expectation that people will attend every group. It’s designed to be a place people can come to if and when they can. You can book your place via the Practictioner’s Health website.
