Medical notes requests from police
The BMA professional fees committee has received new legal advice regarding medical note requests received from the police.
The BMA’s latest guidance on the issue of medical records, published in July 2016, relates to fees for access and copying.
The National Health Service provides health care to most people free of charge, but there are exceptions. Prescription charges have existed since 1951 and there are a number of other services for which fees are charged.
Medical Certificates and Reports
Patients have the right to see reports written about them by a doctor with whom they have a normal doctor-patient relationship.
The LMC has produced a number of guidance documents called brieflets which provide an easy-to-read overview of an issue.
