After completing GP training in the North West, I moved to Nottingham in 1988. During the next 15 years as a principal in general practice I was fortunate to experience immense changes including computerisation, the transition of out of hours care and the introduction of clinical audit. Since 2003 I have been a sessional GP in Nottinghamshire supporting a variety of practices.

I am Community Sub-Dean at the University of Nottingham Medical School with particular responsibility to work with practices and GPs. This builds on my Deanery role as a GP tutor for Primary Care Educator. I am Chair of Vale of Trent RCGP faculty and attend both RCGP Council and GPC meetings. I sit on the Ethics Committee for the RCGP. I am married to Nigel Cartwright, a fellow GP in Kegworth. Our daughter is at Birmingham Medical School and our son is at university studying economics. Most weekends are spent hiking or cycling.
